Renewable energy and environment experts choose Leeds’ Nexus as base for international growth plans

A team of global experts in alternative fuels and emissions reduction have joined Nexus to develop an international platform for the sector.

Liber Larus, which specialises in top-level knowledge exchange for researchers and technical consultancy for businesses, is also developing its own product portfolio of innovations for the energy conservation and environmental management industries.

Dr Yanlong Wu, who established Liber Larus with his wife Dr Jiang Yang and former supervisor Dr Hu Li, Associate Professor at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds, said Nexus was the ideal base for the business’s ambitious growth plans.

“As a Nexus community member, we have access to an incredible support network as well as vital advice, introductions and partnerships to help grow our business,” said Dr Wu. “We’re looking forward to being able to use the physical space at Nexus for research forums, group seminars and conferences in the future, but even without that, the Nexus team are providing invaluable support tailored to our very specific business needs.

“Leeds is a great place to do business, particularly in the technology sector. I took my Masters in energy and the environment at the University of Leeds and there is an incredible array of world-class expertise there, as well as international-level support in financial and professional services based in the city. We will take the Liber Larus concept to other UK cities, but it will be born and nurtured in Leeds.”

Dr Martin Stow, Nexus Director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Liber Larus as our first Community member for 2021. Our Community memberships allow businesses who don’t have the need for a physical office or lab space to connect to the support, expertise and facilities at Nexus and the University of Leeds – an offering we’ve developed as we continue to meet the changing needs of the market.

Dr Wu and his team have an unrivalled reputation for excellence in their sector and are supported by world-class experts across the University of Leeds.

“Not only do they offer a specialist platform for researchers who are interested in knowledge exchange and work placement opportunities, they are also a vital bridge between top-level research and business.

“The team provides technical consultancy and product development expertise in areas which are critical for society and how we protect our environment and for the economy and how we manage our energy resources. We wish them every success and are looking forward to providing every support we can to help them to meet their business goals.”

The Liber Larus team is currently working on a series of innovative product developments, including developing a smart system which can measure your exposure to pollution and its impact on your health, well-being and immune system.

It is also researching the use of hydrogen power for buildings and vehicles, using Leeds-Bradford Airport and Leeds City Centre as models to develop a strategic solution for businesses and investors in the construction, transport and energy sectors.
